How to check if you've got gas to your property

I’ve only just moved in

If you have only just moved in the meter may be capped awaiting a 2nd gas test. If you’ve booked a 2nd  gas test already with us, there’s nothing further you need to do. If you haven’t, give us a call on 0300 456 2531 to arrange one.

I’ve got a pre-payment meter

If you have a prepayment meter, you need to check the supply by looking at the meter display. If there is gas it will display 'on'. Press the red button to show the amount of credit left.

If you’ve ran out of credit, you can get emergency credit by inserting your gas card and pressing the red button. If you have any issues with this, or it says 'off' on the meter you need to contact your gas provider.

You can also check if there is gas by trying to turn your hob on if you have a gas hob.

I’ve got the gas back on

Great! Now you will have to reset your boiler to get it working again. Go to your boiler and turn the on/off switch on the front of the boiler to the reset or ( R ) position. Hold it in the reset position for 20 seconds. It should then result to the on position.

If you have a Baxi Duo-Tec 2 or Potterton Assure, you will have a reset button, which you need to press for 1-3 seconds, which should reset the boiler.

You might need to do this several times before it will light and stay lit but try it a few times before considering reporting a repair.

I’ve got oil fired central heating

Some properties have oil fired central heating. If you have ran out of oil, you will need to contact your oil provider.

I’ve just had a smart meter installed

If a smart meter has just been installed it is possible that the installer has left the gas installation capped with a warning notice attached. Give us a call on 0300 456 2531  and we can come out to uncap the gas for you.
