My immersion isn't working properly, it's damaged or it isn't working at all
The immersion is not working, or the hot water is too hot or cold.
This issue is usually a fault with the thermostat, which can lead to the water being too hot or too cold. You can’t change the temperature of the water yourself. This must be done by an electrician, so you will need to report a repair to us.
I have a gas/oil boiler
If you have a gas/oil boiler you should be able to use it to heat your hot water in the meantime. If this is not the case and the boiler is also not working, click here.
I have an all-electric home
If your home is an all-electric property, there will be a backup immersion heater.
There will be two immersion heaters, the primary one is at the bottom of the cylinder and will be wired into the Economy 7. This means that it will work between the hours of midnight and 7am, which will provide hot water for the day ahead.
The secondary heater will be higher up the cylinder and will work anytime it is turned on, and can be used as a backup. You need to turn this on for around an hour which should give you a source of hot water. You should turn the immersion heater back off once it has heated up the water to the desired temperature.
The immersion heater is damaged or broken
If the immersion is damaged or broken it could be dangerous. You must turn off the immersion heater switch and then go to the fuse board and turn off the immersion heater circuit. Circuits are labelled on the fuse board.
The timer isn’t working
Check that the timer is turned on at the fused spur switch. This should be located near the timer itself. If there still appears to be no power to the timer, you could try replacing the fuse. This should be changed on a like for like basis. You should only try this if you are confident that you can change a fuse.
Check that the timer is set to the timed position. This should then heat the water during the pre-set time. If this doesn't work, try using the boost function if your timer has one. This will turn on the immersion heater and should provide hot water within an hour or so.
If you have an all-electric home and the immersion and storage heaters aren’t working
If both the storage heaters and the immersion heater are not working this is likely to be an issue with the timer located on the fuse board which controls the Economy 7. Futures are not legally allowed to work on this item, and you must contact your energy provider to rectify the fault.
