Can I have a pet?

Yes. If you live in a house, bungalow, flat or maisonette you are allowed 2 domestic pets.

Examples of domestic pets are dogs, cats, small caged animals, small caged birds, small amphibians or fish. You don’t need permission from us for these kinds of pets.

If you want to have more than 2 pets, you need to ask permission for this.

Can I have a pet if I live in shared accommodation?

If you live in any kind of shared or communal accommodation that has any shared kitchen facilities or living areas, you need to request permission from us to have a pet.

Can I have a pet if I live in a private rent home?

You need to request permission for this and let us know what type of pet you would like.

What should I do if I want to keep other types of animals?

If you would like to keep other types of animals, such as large birds, chickens, ferrets, or anything else, you must ask us for permission, even if they usually live outdoors.

How do I request permission?

Send an email to enquiries@futureshg.co.uk or fill out our online form letting us know what kind of pet or animal you would like to have. Our neighbourhoods team will look into this and let you know within 5 working days if you have been given permission, or let you know why we’re saying no.
