Can I install CCTV equipment at my property?

Yes. You can install CCTV at your property without requesting permission if you do not live in any type of shared accommodation or flats.

If you are living in flats or any other shared accommodation, you are not allowed to install any CCTV equipment in the buildings or outside.

CCTV is approved subject to the following.

  • The positioning of the cameras must not directly overlook another property.
  • The equipment should be used only to monitor the intended spaces.
  • The cameras must be restricted where practicable so that those operating the system cannot overlook spaces that are not intended to be viewed.

Failure to comply with these conditions constitutes a breach of tenancy conditions, and further action will be taken if not complied with. There are guidelines laid out by the government here for additional information on this.
