Water is leaking into my electrics (through the ceiling or down a wall)
Please note you should never attempt to undertake any electrical repairs yourself; this includes any alterations to electrical fixtures and fittings e.g., replacing a socket, switch, light fitting or altering any wiring.
Our self-help information is intended to help you get your power back on where there is an easy fix, diagnose an electrical issue, or isolate a potentially dangerous area.
The water is leaking into the fuse board or smoke alarms
You must not touch the fuse board. The fuse board will trip out on its own if water starts to affect it.
You need to call us to report this urgently, as the situation could be dangerous and you may be without power.
If the water is leaking into a light fitting or socket
Go to the fuse board and turn off the affected circuit (for example lights or sockets). All circuits should be labelled.
You need to check if you still have green lights on your smoke alarms as turning off some light circuits could affect mains smoke alarms. If the smoke alarms are affected, you need to call us as soon as possible to report the repair.
If there is any item which needs to be kept plugged in, for example a fridge/freezer or fish tank, there should be a working socket from which a fully unwound extension cable can be run from. Never plug one extension cable into another (‘daisy-chaining).
