Rutland Mill fire safety information
We have discovered a potential fire safety issue during our work to replace the roof at Rutland Mill. This does not present any immediate danger to anyone living in the building, but it does need addressing as part of the overall roof works.
While this is being resolved, we need to change the fire safety policy from ‘stay put’ to ‘get out’.
The key points to remember for this are:
- If there is a fire in your own flat, get everybody out, stay out and call 999.
- If the fire alarm sounds, make your way calmly out to a safe space away from the building.
We also recommend:
- Checking that your smoke alarms are working regularly.
- Make an escape plan for you and those living with you.
- Keep communal corridors and escape routes clear at all times.
If you have any medical needs that would prevent you from being able to get out safely in the case of a fire, please contact our customer services team on 0300 456 2531 to let us know.
We’ll also have a waking watch on hand to patrol inside and outside the building while the works are being completed. This isn’t something to worry about and is a fire safety measure recommended from Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service, and we want to ensure we do everything we can to put your safety first.
We are getting expert advice from consultants, local building control and the fire service to help us plan the best way of fixing the roof. We are absolutely committed to dealing with this as quickly and effectively as possible and will keep residents informed. Because of this additional but necessary work, the scaffolding will unfortunately need to stay in place for longer than we originally planned.
