What should I do if I can smell gas and think there might be a leak?
You must call Cadent immediately on 0800 111 999 and take the following actions:
- Ventilate the property by opening doors and windows
- Turn off the emergency control valve next to the gas meter. There should be a yellow label attached to the pipe above the emergency control valve that shows the on and off position of the handle.
- Don't use electric switches or naked flames (eg candles, lighters, matches or gas cookers)
Once you have completed the above actions, give us a call on 0300 456 2531 to let us know.
Cadent will attend the same day. They will leave you with a warning notice if the installation must be capped off or isolated. If they do this, you must keep this document and show it to our operative when they attend.
This is an emergency situation and should be dealt with as soon as you notice the problem. Do not hesitate to act if you believe there might be a gas leak as it could become a very dangerous situation very quickly.
